Are you currently in a relationship? Just found a new love? Exclusively dating with someone? Well then, things are suppose to be doing good. But at times people tend to lose focus and forget the true reason why they are in a relationship or why they are dating. For some it is a need to be taken care by someone, for someone to love them in return. Others go in a relationship because they think it’s high time indulge in one and then some would go into a relationship because of power or physical attraction.

Well there are certainly a lot of reasons why people commit themselves, but sometimes it makes you wonder if the root of the relationship is based on love. Yes the most common term for a person to be committed is love. It would be hard to recognize love at first, for in our world today people commit in a relationship because they have a need for the person and not because of love.

How do you know if you’re in love? A frequently asked question from young people, but until now it would still be hard to explain. Like all relationship it is a give and take, which is what they call logical love. But loving without waiting for anything in return is unconditional. Holding on to a relationship is the tricky part especially if your just starting, you’ll need to set rules to prevent the other person from getting hurt.

Being in a relationship has pros and cons; there would be times wherein everything you do with your partner becomes a habit. This is to be expected if you spend almost everyday with each other. The risk is that you tend to lose the feeling; the trick would be try something out of the ordinary, try something that you haven’t done yet. Another problem would be you tend to forget your friends because you spend most of your time with your partner, it is still important to keep thing balance.

The best thing about being in love is that you’re inspired all the time; you tend to be happy most of the time that people would see you glowing. Plus you have someone that would stick with you through thick and thin. There are numerous ways to be in love but to stay in love needs work. You can start by doing something special or unexpected for the person you love or doing simple things or sweet nothings are one ways to prevent your partner from thinking that you taking him or her for granted, and most important is communication.

One of the major complications is that people change and it is up to both parties to work it up and survive through the changes, growing up together emotionally and mentally is the key to a successful bond. Being a hindrance to one party can result to a problem that would lead to break up. A relationship might take a lot of work but the success that comes with a harmonious relationship can result to a deep and long term commitment that can lead to marriage.

Building Relationships, Commitment and Love – Starting With I

We continue our series on building interpersonal relationships, whether with family, coworkers, friends, or that special someone. We know that commitment and love are important to all of us. They are worth fighting for; they are worth working for. You should also know that despite so many promises there is no secret for success, no checklist of things you should do, and just as importantly no checklist of things not to do. But we do have suggestions, now continuing with the letter I. We actually have a double series of articles for the letter I. The focus here is on idea, impartial, and indispensable.

I is for idea. Don’t be short on ideas. The way I look at things, it’s a lot better to scratch your brain and come up with some new ideas than to simply be a yes person (they used to call them yes men.) Of course, some of your ideas won’t fly. So don’t get all defensive when people call them into question. Don’t assume that just because people disagree with your ideas that they are attacking you. Of course you know your colleagues, friends, and family. Some people will attack you, and even end up claiming your ideas for their own. You should keep a careful record of your ideas so you won’t be submitting the same ones twice. And learn from your mistakes. That way you can resubmit the new improved version. It may fly the second or the tenth time.

I is for impartial. Don’t immediately take sides in an argument. Try to hear both sides before making any decision. And don’t decide on the basis that Isabelle is more reliable than Itchy, besides smelling better as well. There is nothing as impartial as flipping a coin. I could really swear that’s how some judicial and even family decisions are made. But maybe I’m not impartial.

I is for indispensable. There is no way to secure your future like being indispensable. When I was a computer programmer way back when it was rumored that some people, insecure for their future, would intentionally place “bugs” or mistakes in their programs. They would come in and fix the problem, perhaps after other more qualified programmers would throw up their hands in despair at being unable to solve the problem. There are surely other, less controversial ways of becoming indispensable. Ways that could not be construed as sabotage. And I’m not talking about marrying the boss’s daughter, son, or both.

Levi Reiss has written or co-authored ten computer and Internet books. He teaches computer classes in an Ontario French-language community college now builds web sites. Visit his global wine site at http://www.theworldwidewine.com that features a weekly column on $10 wines and new sections writing about (theory) and tasting (practice) organic and kosher wines. Build your relationship; enjoy a glass of wine together.
